Terms of Service
Last updated June 2026
SweatDebt is a platform for personal and charity fundraising challenges. By creating a campaign, donating, or using the site, you agree to these terms.
1. What SweatDebt is
SweatDebt lets a person, team or organisation raise money for a stated cause by completing physical activity. Donations convert into a public “distance debt” the fundraiser pledges to repay. We are a technology platform — we are not a registered charity and we do not provide financial, tax or legal advice.
2. Donations are gifts
- Donations are unconditional gifts to the campaign. They are not contingent on the fundraiser completing their distance — the activity is a public pledge, not an escrow condition.
- Donations are generally non-refundable. Refunds (e.g. for duplicate or fraudulent charges) are at our discretion and that of the payment processor.
- Donations are not tax-deductible unless a campaign is explicitly run by a registered charity through an approved mechanism. No Gift Aid is offered at this time.
3. How money moves
Payments are processed by Stripe. Funds settle directly to the fundraiser’s or organisation’s connected account — SweatDebt never holds your money. We are supported by an optional tip you can add at checkout (and, for some organisations, a configurable platform fee). Payment processing fees may apply.
4. Where funds go
Funds are received by the campaign owner personally (or the organisation running the campaign), who pledges to apply them to the stated cause. Where a campaign names a third-party charity, that charity is the intended beneficiary but is not necessarily a party to the payment. We display this clearly on every campaign.
5. Fundraiser responsibilities
- Describe your campaign and cause honestly. Do not impersonate others or misrepresent where funds go.
- Only claim activity you genuinely completed. Connect Strava or upload GPS files where possible; self-reported entries are badged as such.
- You are responsible for any tax owed on funds you receive.
6. Verification & content
We run automated plausibility checks on activities but cannot guarantee the accuracy of any repayment claim. Taunts, messages and campaign content are user-generated; we may moderate, hide or remove anything that breaches these terms, and we operate a manual review queue for campaigns over certain thresholds.
7. Prohibited use
- No fraud, money laundering, or campaigns without a genuine stated purpose.
- No illegal, hateful, harassing or harmful content, challenges or forfeits.
- No use that violates Stripe’s or Strava’s terms.
8. Liability
Physical activity carries risk; you take part at your own risk and should take appropriate advice. To the extent permitted by law, SweatDebt is not liable for campaign outcomes, the conduct of fundraisers or donors, or whether any pledged distance is completed.
9. Changes & contact
We may update these terms; material changes will be notified on the site. Questions? Contact us via the channels listed on our site.
